Residential Program

Treatment Approach

The resident's varying ages, maturity levels, intellectual capacities, diverse backgrounds and circumstances surrounding their placements contribute to the specific treatment needs. Gift of Hope utilizes a progressive care plan that meets the specific needs of each resident. Resident's needs are identified in their strengths and need assessment individual service plan and incorporated in every facet of the program, which emphasizes ways to impact youth's self sufficiency. The residents benefit from a core set of life skills training that is essential for personal growth and to identify and develop other skills that are specific to the individual. Group and individual therapy services promote emotional healing and assist with behavioral management of the resident.

Behavioral Management

The program is structured so new residents are able to learn and understand what is considered appropriate behavior. Behavior management, life skills training, community meetings, counseling and volunteer programs are coordinated to emphasize positive communication and socialization skills. Specific supports for young adolescents will focus on developing positive relationships and coping skills. Residents are rewarded for completing individual objectives, tasks, and displaying positive and appropriate behaviors. As the residents progress through the program, they are given increased responsibilities and rewards that measure their individual treatment progress.

Community Meetings

Community meetings are scheduled to address house management and to provide a forum for conflict resolution. The staff and residents work together to identify and solve problems that impact the residential environment. Residents are given the opportunity to express concerns about the program or other individuals. The community meeting serves to reinforce various skills and to encourage group cohesion.

We teach the children to give
back to the community.

As part of their education the boys and girls in our care donate their time to local nursing homes, the Rescue Mission and other community service programs.

Continuing with school is a very important part of development.

Our residents attend either Cave Spring High School in the Roanoke County school system, or an alternative school in the area.
